URBAN-NET Stakeholder Workshop 4

"Transnational Research on Urban Sustainable Development", Stockholm City Museum, Stockholm, 17 & 18 November 2009

The 4th stakeholder workshop on a theme of added value and the integrated approach in urban research was held at the City Museum of Stockholm, 17th - 18th November. In addition to attendance by representatives of URBAN-NET partner organisations, networks and stakeholders we were pleased to meet many of the researchers funded by the first URBAN-NET pilot call and hear about project progress to date.

Participants also heard from:

  • DG Research on FP7 Environment theme funding programmes and developments;
  • a new Swedish centre of excellence for urban sustainable development; and
  • Joanneum Research, Austria, on a Joint Programme Initiative proposal for “Cities of the Future / Transport”

"Added value" from transnational research and an "integrated approach" to research on urban sustainability were the main concepts discussed during two parallel sessions. During a third session on day 2, Programme Managers discussed future funding of urban sustainability research while researchers discussed complementarities and synergies across the research projects and knowledge exchange options. These included publication of a research anthology, creation of short videos and engagement in a proposed networking event to be hosted by URBAN-NET at the World Urban Forum in Rio de Janeiro March 2010.
